Swaidna For sustainable development Organization (SSDO)
Project Title: Water and Hygene (wash) Project
Activity: Rehabilitation of a Drinking Well
Beneficiaries: Residents of Hara 50 Al-Thawra 1200
family approximately (7.200)person.
Implementation Location: Kararri West Administrative Unit.
Month of Implementation: August 2024
Activity Summary:
Both the local residents and the displaced of the area had been struggling to access clean and safe drinking water due to a damaged submersible pump caused by fluctuating electricity supply resulting from the disruption of civil services and operational sectors following the April 15th events in Khartoum. Residents were forced to travel 2 kilometers daily to fetch water and stand in long queues to obtain insufficient quantities for their daily needs. With the well repaired and rehabilitated, both local residents and those displaced from the conflict zones can now access abundant, safe, and clean water, ensuring their well-being.
The following activities were carried out:
Installation of a 15kW solar energy system
Installation of a 20-hp submersible pump
Cleaning of the well pit
Installation of pump-specific piping
Installation of an energy management system to ensure stable power supply
Recommendations
Given the pressing needs of the area, our volunteers have identified a need to expand the Nile water treatment plants or increase the number of wells in the region to ensure a stable water supply and access to clean water that is not susceptible to contamination, thereby relieving women from the burden of fetching water.
Key Activities
- Implementing a solar energy lighting
- Organizing environmental campaigns
